HOME ORGANIZER FAQs
Why should I hire a professional organizer when my mom has agreed to help me every weekend?
Many people discover professional organizers after they’ve already tried to organize with the help of their mom, a spouse, or a friend. But these sessions can quickly veer off into reminiscing, or simply end after a short time. It’s just about impossible to reach a successful conclusion. Bring in a pro. When time and money are on the table, everyone rises to the occasion. Let’s get your project done!
What is the first step?
We will have a chat on the phone — a free consultation of up to 30 minutes long — in which you will describe your goals, and the Queen will explain how the process works. Then we make an appointment to begin the work. Many of our projects wrap up in just one session.
Do you offer virtual decluttering?
We sure do! This is an effective way — in the COVID-19 era — to accomplish a lot without face-to-face interaction.
Do I need to participate in the process?
You bet you do! You will be making the decisions about what to keep and what not to keep. The Clutter Queen will guide the process and do most or all of the physical work. We will help you sort through your items, and organize them — keep, donate, discard. Then we bag up the trash, and take away most donations!
How long does a declutter project take?
The time we spend depends on two factors: how many items we will be sorting through, and our client’s ability to make decisions about the items. We have a two-hour minimum, and we can return for additional sessions as needed. As a ballpark estimate, a moderately cluttered bedroom can take 2-4 hours.
Papers take a bit longer than objects (clothes, kitchenware, etc).
Do you offer virtual decluttering?
We sure do! Get in touch for details!
Should I clean my home in preparation?
Nope. There is nothing you need to do in preparation except have a good supply of plastic bags on hand.
What storage solutions should I buy?
Lots of clients ask us this question. The answer is: NONE. Once we declutter, many clients end up having lots of empty bins. It’s declutter first, organize last. If you need some storage, the Queen can advise you at the end of the project.
How much do you charge?
We are $125/hour and most of our projects involve the Queen and an assistant. When you comparison shop, remember that the Queen is widely regarded by many of her clients as the most efficient professional organizer in town, so you will end up paying for fewer sessions. If you are accustomed to hiring a housecleaner, you can think of our work as Cleaning on Steroids!
Which forms of payment do you accept?
Venmo, checks, cash, credit cards, and Paypal.
Short on cash? We also accept barter! If you have a skill (cooking, hairdressing, repairs, sewing, etc.) that the Queen is seeking, let’s talk! Or perhaps you have an object (a bike, an Instapot, etc.) the Queen is looking for. Let’s talk!
Will you declutter my place in London or Sydney?
Sure! If you pay our way and put us up. But seriously, we primarily service the Greater Boston area, but we sometimes work outside our normal geographic range if you have a particularly pressing need. And don’t forget — we offer virtual decluttering too!
Is the Clutter Queen insured?
Yes. We are bonded too!
What if I have a client or a relative who needs decluttering?
Email me and let’s have a chat about it!
